wc

For all LPCC 2019 tournament games, LPCC will award La Palma Chess Club Grand Prix (GP) points. The purpose of this is to reward our most frequent participants and most winning players.

GP Points awarded

  • Three points for a win, two points for a draw, one point for a loss.
  • A 1-point bye (as awarded when there are an uneven number of players, a.k.a. an odd man bye) will be given three points. A ½-point bye will be awarded two points. A zero point bye will be awarded zero points.
  • A forfeit win will be awarded three points.
  • A forfeit loss will be awarded minus 6 points.

Eligible games: All LPCC tournament games (Swiss, ladder tournaments, quadrangular tournaments) played in 2018. Extra or house games are not eligible. Quick Chess or Action games are not eligible.

Eligible players: All players entered in the tournament in which that game is played. A house player who is not entered in that tournament cannot earn GP points.

Competitions: The GP will be split into two competitions: the first one ending at the end of June, and the second one ending at the end of the year.

Sections: Each competition will be split into three rating sections: 1850 and above, 1500 to 1849, and below 1500. LPCC expects these splits to yield three equally populated sections.

Prizes: For each competition, a $50 first prize in each section, and a special prize for each runner-up.

Prize award date: The Grand Prix prizes will be awarded after the last tournament round of the Spring session about June 30, 2019 and Fall Session Dec. 31, 2019.

Ratings: The ratings to be used for prize awards will be the ratings held by players as of June 30, 2019 and Dec. 31, 2019.

Standings: GP point standings will be posted from time to time at the club, and on our website. Current standings for the 2018 LPCC Grand Prix are here.
