Spring 2011 (April 1 though June 10)

Entry Fee

One $45 entry fee entitles you to play in all three of the tournaments listed below, with a $5 discount for La Palma residents or players under 18. A reduced entry fee for players who only want to play in one or two of the tournaments. See La Palma Recreation Department catalog here.

Tournament Details

The Tal Memorial

A 5 round Swiss in two sections, honoring Tal's reign as world champion 50 years ago.

Registration: 6-7pm.

Rounds: All rounds start 7pm.

The Tal section: Limited to the top 8 highest rated players and ties (or late entries that would have qualified for this group). A round Swiss robin.

Prizes: 1st. $100 and 2nd $50

The Not So Tal Section Open to all players not qualifying for the Tal section.

Prizes: 1st. $75, 2nd. $40, Under 1600 trophy, and Under 1400 trophy

Combined section Prizes: Trophies for biggest upset and quickest win.

Time control: Game/120 for both sections

Byes: One half-point bye may be taken. An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.

The School's Out Celebration

A a 5 round Swiss in one section.

Registration: 6-7pm.

Rounds: All rounds start 7pm.

Prizes: 1st. $75, 2nd. $40, and trophies for best U1800, U1600, U1400, and biggest upset.

Time control: Game/120 for both sections

Byes: One half-point bye may be taken. An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.

The Quick Chess Whizzer

A 4 round Swiss in one section. All four rounds played in one night. This is Action Chess and will not change your regular USCF rating.

Registration: 6-7pm.

Rounds: First round starts 7pm.

Prize: 1st. $20

Time control: Game/27

Byes: None
