The La Palma Chess Club schedule
Fall 2009 (September 4 through November 27)

Entry Fee

One $35 entry fee entitles you to play in all the events in the 3-month tournament session. Alternatively, the entry fee for only the Sept. 4 to Sept. 25 event is $18, or only the Oct. 2 to Nov. 6 event is $25.  EF for the one night Speed Chess or Quickie events is $10 each. A $5 discount for La Palma residents applies to either option.

Tournament Details
 

Undisputed Chess Championship of the Universe 2

A 4-round Swiss in two sections.

Registration:
6-7pm. Rounds start 7pm.

Sections and Prizes:

Supernova Section (over 1600*):
1st $75 plus Trophy and title of “The Undisputed Chess Champion of the Universe”, 2nd $50, 3rd $30, U1950 Trophy, and U1750 Trophy

Black Hole Section (under 1600*):
1st $25 plus Trophy, 2nd $20 plus Trophy, 3rd $15 plus Trophy, U1550 Trophy, U1350 Trophy.

Dark Matter/ Dark Energy Prize:
Best score with the black pieces $20.

* If you are rated exactly 1600 you will be sawed in half and may play in both sections.

Space-Time controls:
Game/120

Byes: One half-point bye may be taken. An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.


2009 Club Championship

A 6-round Swiss in one section. 

Prizes:

$$100 first place and 2009 Club Champion title.
$$50 2nd place.
Class Prizes: trophies to best U1700, U1500, and U1300/Unrated
Best game prize as judged by IM Jack Peters, $50.

Time controls: Game/120.

Byes: Two half-point byes may be taken.  An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.


The Quickie


A 5-round Open Swiss, Quick Chess, (all rounds in one night.)

Registration:
6-7pm. Rounds start 7pm.

 

Prizes: Winner $20


Time control
: G/20, quick-rated


Blitzing the Pilgrim

Because a lot of the members will participate in the American Open and because of the Thanksgiving weekend, we will have an informal unrated speed chess tournament. No EF no prizes, just glory. Rounds determined that night.

Registration: 6-7pm. Rounds start 7pm.
