The La Palma Chess Club schedule
Fall 2008 (October 3 through December 26)
Entry Fee
One $45 entry fee entitles you to play in a 3-month tournament session.
Alternatively, the entry fee for only the Oct. 3 to Nov. 21 event is $25, or
only the Dec. 5 to Dec. 26 event is $15. There is no EF for the one night Speed
Chess event. A $5 discount for La Palma residents applies to either option.

Tournament Details
LPCC 2008 Club Championship
A 6-round Swiss in one section.
Prizes:
$$100 first place and 2008 Club Champion title.
$$50 2nd place.
Class Prizes: trophies to best U1700, U1500, and U1300/Unrated
Best game prize as judged by IM Jack Peters, $50.
Time controls: Game/120.
Byes: Two half-point byes may be taken. An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.
Speed Chess Tournament
Because a lot of the members will participate in the American Open
and because of the Thanksgiving weekend, we will have an informal speed chess
tournament. No entry fee or prizes, just glory.
Prizes: Honor and glory of being king of the Blitz hill.

Four Knight Swiss
A 4-round Swiss in two sections. The field will be divided
in half by ratings.
Prizes: 19 Trophies and $$575 in cash
One Section (higher rated)
1st $175 + Trophy, 2nd $100 + Trophy, 3rd $50 + Trophy, Trophies: U2000,
U1900,U1800, and U1700
The Other Section (lower rated)
1st $125 + Trophy, 2nd $75 + Trophy, 3rd $50 + Trophy, Trophies: U1600, U1500,
U1400, U1300, and U1200/Unrated
Additional Trophies
Shortest Game, Quickest Mate, Biggest Upset (one game rating difference),
Biggest Rating Gain. (These trophies are best from either section, but not both)
