Fall Session 2012 (Sept. 7 through Dec. 28, 2012)


Entry Fee

$45 for the Fall session (includes all three tournaments). Or, $35 for The Knight's Tour; $40 for An Indian Defense; and $30 for the Holiday Chess Nut Roast. All fees $5 less for players under 18 or La Palma residents.

Tournament Details


The Knight's Tour

A 5–round Swiss in two sections. Grand Knights Section: 10 highest rated players plus any additional late entrants whose ratings are in this bracket. Friday Knights Section: all others.

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Prizes in both sections:
1st. place, $75 and 2nd. place, $30.
The Bergman Award (best game as judged by IM Jack Peters): $20 $40.
The Bogart Award (largest rating gain): $20

Time control: Game/120, d/5

Byes: One half-point bye may be taken.  An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.


An Indian Defense to the Mayan Cale

A 7-round Swiss in one section.

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Prizes:
1st. place, $100; 2nd. place, $ 50; and Best Under 1800, $25.
Best Indian Defense game, $20.
Biggest Scalp (biggest upset), $20.
Special End of World Prize, TBA.

Time control: Game/120, d/5

Byes: Two half-point byes may be taken.  An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.


Holiday Chess Nut Roast

A 3-round Swiss in 3 sections (grouped by rating).

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Prizes: 1st place each section, $25. Other prizes TBA.

Time control: Game/120, d/5

Byes: None.
