Winter Session 2016 (January 8 through April 29, 2016)
Entry Fee
$54 for the session (includes all three tournaments). Or, $50 forStraight Outta Beckett; $50 for the Akiba Rubinstein Open; and $54 for the La Palma Club Championship. All fees $5 less for La Palma residents.

Straight Outta Beckett: Winter’s Endgames
A 5-round Swiss in one section. Commemorating chess enthusiast and playwright Samuel Beckett and his headache inducing play, Endgame.
Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.
Prizes:
1st Place: $80
2nd Place: $40
First Class B, C, D and under: $25
Special prizes, combined sections:
Best endgame, longest endgame, best endgame sacrifice, largest rating gain.
Time control: Game/1:55, d/5
Byes: One half-point bye may be taken. An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.
The Akiba Rubinstein Open: the Man Who Could Have
Been Champion
A 5-round Swiss in two sections remembering Akiba Rubinstein. In the early 20th century Rubinstein had the talent to be world
champion, but not the financial backing. Were he alive and active today he would be the top
contender for that title, if not the defending champion.
Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.
Sections:
Sections will be formed by dividing the field in half at round one.
Late entries will be placed into section that covers their rating.
Prizes, each sections:
1st Place: $100
2nd Place: $50
3rd Place: $25
Special prizes for quickest win, biggest upset, and any player whose rating gain promoted
him or her into a higher class.
Time control: Game/1:55, d/5
Byes: One half-point bys may be taken. An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.
La Palma Club Championship
A 7-round Swiss in one section.
Prizes:
1st place: $500 and championship title
2nd place: $200
3rd place: $50
Perfect 7-0 score bonus: $100
Best game as judged by IM Jack Peters: $50
Trophies for best under 1700, best under 1500, and largest rating gain
Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.
