Winter Session 2013 (January 4 through March 29, 2013)



Entry Fee

$45 for the Fall session (includes all three tournaments). Or, $35 for 500 Years of Damiano’s Gift; $40 for The 6th Milky Way Championship; and $20 for the Ladder Competition. All fees $5 less for players under 18 or La Palma residents.

Tournament Detail

500 Years of Damiano’s Gift

Celebrating the invention of the chess book by Pedro Damiano 500 years ago. A 5–round Swiss in two sections. Top section consists of the 10 highest rated players plus any additional late entrants whose ratings are in this bracket.

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Prizes in both sections:
Upper section: 1st. place, $75; 2nd. place, $50.
Lower section: 1st. place, $50; Special prizes for 1st. under 1600, 1st. under 1300, and biggest upset.

Extra: Free chess book exchange on Feb. 1. Bring in your old chess books and swap them.

Time control: Game/120, d/5

Byes: One half-point bye may be taken.  An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.

The 6th Milky Way Championship

A 5-round Swiss in one section.

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Prizes:
1st. place, $75; 2nd. place, $50; 3rd. place, $30.
Best game, $20 as judged by IM Jack Peters.
Special prizes for best under 1700, best under 1500, best under 1300, and biggest upset.
Black Hole prize for the longest winning game; Shooting Star prize for the biggest rating gain.

Time control: Game/120, d/5

Byes: One half-point bye may be taken.  An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.

2013 Ladder Competition, Part I

A 3-round ladder tournament, paired by rating.

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Prizes: Each perfect score: $25.

Time control: Game/120, d/5

Byes: None.
