The La Palma Chess Club schedule
Summer Session 2016 (May 6 through August 26, 2016)

Entry Fee

$54 for the session (includes all tournaments plus the simul). Or, $45 for Oh No, El Nino; $45 for Hunting the Zombie Guard; $15 for the National Open Refusenik Match; $25 for the Jack Peters Simul; and $45 for the Chess Trifecta. All fees $5 less for La Palma residents.

Oh No, El Nino

Back on dry ground and enjoying chess again. A 5-round Swiss in two sections.

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Sections:
The Big Mudslides (upper) section: class A and higher; Flooded Gutters (lower) section: class B and below.


Prizes, each sections:
1st. place $100, 2nd. place $75, 3rd. place $50
First Class A, B, C, D and under: $25 each.
Special prizes, combined sections: Shortest Win, Biggest Upset.

Time control: Game/1:55, d/5

Byes: One half-point bys may be taken. An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.

Hunting the Zombie Guard

A 7-round Swiss in one section. Remembering the inventor of the zombie guard, and one of
our former club presidents, Ray Jones. No tournament round on June 24.

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Prizes:
1st. place $200, 2nd. place $100, 3rd. place $50
Class prizes: 1st. A, B, C, D and under. $25 each.
Special prizes for: Undead Award (longest win), Biggest Upset, and Brain Eater prize (best game) $50

Time control: Game/1:55, d/5

Byes: Two half-point byes may be taken. An irrevocable last round half-point bye is allowed only if declared before the first round starts.

National Open Refusenik Match

A one round ladder match.

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Prizes: Special prize for each winner.

Time control: Game/1:55, d/5

Byes: None

IM Jack Peters Simultaneous Exhibition and Lecture

International Master Jack Peters will give a lecture and then simultaneously play all challengers, up to a limit of 35 players.

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Lecture starts at 7 p.m.

Prizes: Any one who wins or draws his or her game against Jack will win a special prize.

The Chess Trifecta

A 3-round Swiss in three sections.

Sections: Sections grouped by ratings.

Prizes, each section:
1st. place $50, 2nd $25, perfect score $25
Special prizes: Quickest Checkmate, Biggest Rating Gain

Registration: 6-7 p.m. Rounds start at 7 p.m.

Time control: Game/1:55, d/5

Byes: None
